Social Networks

Using social networking is a trend for client interation, marketing and networking in libraries. However, I think at present, the technology is still new to some of our customers. Some of our customers still have no confidence in using computer. We can use this new technology to market and network in our library together with the traditional ways in this stage.

Online Applications and Tools

I have just created a document and shared it with nswpln. I think it is good to use this online application tool to share information as well as giving ideas among a group of people, friends, colleagues. It saves time to check which version is the most updated one.

Mashups

I think I will explore more on"Big hug labs". It is very easy to create something from your photos. Here is the puzzle I have made from it.

Podcasts and Audio

Podcasting, this technology can be used in our Library in several different ways, like author talk, internet training, presentation, workshop, story telling, and staff orientation. It is not only a useful tool for our library customers, but also library staff.

Answer boards and social searching

I think many libraries are very busy. Librarians always have heavy workload. They may not be able to really commit to "slamming the boards". They can join it voluntarily and when they feel they have time. However, I think it is a good opporturnity for the students of library studies to practise their answering reference question skill.

Delicious Account

Here is the link of my delicious account. Not "delicious" yet as I have not put any links on some delicious food sites in it. It has actually nothing there. I will update it later.

After visiting some delicious sites, eg Sutherland Shire Libraries tag cloud and Cleveland Public Library's tag, I have a clearer understanding of what is a social book marking. What these libraries do is to put some useful websites or blogs in their accounts for ready reference. However, I am thinking of how much and how wide the area of the information we should put in the account.

Videos Online

Yes, there are a lot of video clips out there in YouTube and Google video. And we can make use of this technology to promote and publicize library activities, just like an ads on TV.

Wikis

Wiki is a very useful tool in a library to enhance its services, such as subject guides, showing direction in a library, book review and etc. I am thinking of using wiki in our library club so that members can discuss things like which books to be included in the discussion list. However, one important think is that whether the members are willing to use it or learn to use it.

RSS

I have spent some times figuring out how to find blogs to put on my reader. Later, I have found google blog search. It is quite easy to find something you want there. I have subscribed a blog called 'China Film Journal". I think this technology can help me to find some new artists/performers for our Library's activities.

Finally, I have found the pictures are up on the Flickr 4 days after I posted them up.

I have been struggling for the last week about uploading the picture onto Flickr. In my account, it said the picture was up on 25 March 2008, but I couldn't find it on Flickr. I kept on checking my account to see if there were anything that I had missed to kick or unkick. It was for public view.

Thanks for the comment telling me that I need to upload at least 5 images before seeing them on Flickr. I didn't see anywhere in the website that we need to upload at least 5 images each time. But anyway, it seemed a light for me. When I uploaded other images, some of them could not be able to be uploaded as they are larger than 5MB per file. It took me a long time to upload all five images. But I am disappointed to find that they are still not found on Flickr.

I need to move on and try to find out the reason later!

Image Uploading

I have just uploaded a picture of our library in Flickr, but I cannot find it in Flickr yet. Don't know if the image can be up there instantly or it will take some time.

Photos Adding

I have tried several times to put this picture up on my blog but in vain. It is because I haven't checked on the "Terms of Services".

I have tried many times to include a picture from Flickr, but it always gave me a blank square. Don't know why? Copyright? I tried to insert the picture with Blogger's photo upload tool, but no luck. I also checked in Flickr to see if there is a way for me to put a picture from there to my blog as suggested. Flickr requires us to contact the photographer for permission.

Exploring the functions in the blog world

Still exploring the different functions in the blog world. Just get a good suggestion from the program co-ordinator about the function "Moderate Comments".
